From history to nowadays
Tērbatas Dārzs is a project with a rich history and deep roots. This location once hosted some of the most exciting sports events in Latvia’s hockey scene during the 20th century and was also home to the green initiative ‘Sporta Pils Dārzi’.

Rigas Sporta Pils
Rīgas Sporta Pils was a historic sports and event venue in Riga, Latvia. Built in 1970, it was primarily known as an ice hockey arena and home to significant sports events, including games of the legendary Dinamo Riga team. The venue also hosted concerts and cultural events. It was demolished in 2008 to make way for new developments, but its legacy remains an important part of Riga’s sports history.

Sporta Pils gardens
Sporta Pils Dārzi was an urban gardening initiative launched at this location in 2020, transforming the vacant space into a vibrant community garden. The project focused on sustainability, green living, and fostering a sense of community, providing a space for residents to connect and engage in urban gardening – a legacy that Tērbatas Dārzs aspires to carry forward for its future residents.
Estera acquired all Sporta Pils territory in 2022 with a vision to develop the area into a new modern residential quarter. After completing architecture and technical design works, construction of the first apartment building on Terbatas 78A was started in March 2025.
Architectural competition
An architectural competition for a residential project challenges architects and designers to create innovative, functional, and aesthetically appealing housing solutions
For Terbatas Darzs new city quarter project, an international competition was structured in multiple stages, ultimately leading to the selection of three winners. The winning solutions were chosen by an international jury based on innovativeness of the housing solutions, sustainability, functionality and aesthetics. Each of the three architects will be implementing their ideas in separate stages of the development creating a diverse and integrated complete concept.
